S1 and S2 Art and Design pupils at Penicuik High School have been learning about the design process and the Olympics by researching its history and all about the Rio Games. Pupils used their research, part of which they completed as homework, to create a research sheet which brought together all of their work for this stage. This sheet included a mind-map, themed research images, including drawings, and examples of market research. They then used this research to develop at least two of their own ideas for t-shirt designs which could be worn by supporters of the Games. Design specifications included ensuring their design included either the Olympic logo, mascots or 'Rio 2016' and the importance of achieving visual impact. They then presented their best idea as their final design and completed the unit by evaluating their own design work. Those that had completed the unit got the opportunity to analyse designs from previous Olympic Games.
