Originally launched in 2014, Get Set’s Values Awards challenged young people to understand, live, and share the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, determination, courage and equality. Each of the Values Awards focused on different ways of exploring the Values and helped young people develop key life-skills and build their personal and social development. Through the Awards students could about the Values through either online activities, longer project work or putting them into action with a volunteering project.

“The challenges were great and engaged the pupils, prompting really good discussion – because of the Values Awards that we have adopted the Olympic and Paralympic values as part of our school’s ethos!”

Across the country

Now that the Values Awards programme has closed, the Get Set Team wanted to say a huge thank you to all the schools and students who took part. Hundreds of young people from young across the UK (from Essex to the Isle of Skye!) have participated in the Awards – with over 350 students successfully completing an Award to become one of Get Set’s Values Stars, Champions or Ambassadors. To all those who took part – you have definitely proved your determination and excellence and we hope you will continue to live the Values and inspire others in the future!

Inspirational

The Values Awards helped inspire even more children at the lucky schools that won a visit from an athlete as a reward for their hard work during the programme. For instance, students at Worthing High School met equestrian star Sophie Christiansen, who spoke about her experience as an athlete, Paralympian and female mathematician providing herself “inspirational and a role model for all generations." Students at Chadwell Primary also had the chance to meet Olympic gymnast Aimee Tinkler, while students at Inverkeilor Primary met Paralympian and marathon runner Derek Rae. Each of the athletes were very impressed by the hard work of the students they met – and the students similarly impressed to meet an Olympian or Paralympian in the flesh!
