Challenge outcomes (Primary)

  • Design a poster.
  • Create a slogan to encourage community support.
  • Display poster in the local community.

Teacher notes

The Community support challenge provides a perfect opportunity for pupils to plan, develop and create a promotional poster to encourage community members to get behind Team GB and ParalympicsGB leading up to and during the Games. Pupils can discuss a range of ideas for slogans to encourage support from community members.

Support: Provide a slogan for the pupils to create their posters around. For example: ‘We’re all one team.’
Challenge: Create a poster using collage techniques.

Challenge outcomes (Secondary)

  • Work as part of a team to develop an idea.
  • Plan a community event including the theme, date, venue and audience.
  • Think about ways to market the event locally.
  • Deliver an engaging community event. This could be for younger groups in the school.
  • Review and celebrate the success of the event.

Teacher notes

The Community event challenge provides a perfect opportunity for students to learn about social action and how they can support their local community whilst developing their teamwork, communication, decision-making and evaluation skills. Students discuss a range of ideas and work as a team to decide on a final event. Using the instruction template, students begin thinking about what makes them proud of their own community and then think about the steps that go into planning an event. The planning sheet helps students to develop a simple strategy to create and plan their event, market it and deliver the event (optional).

Support: Keep the event small and school based.
Challenge: Set a goal such as number of attendees, supporters, money raised, etc.
