ACTIVITY IDEA

Use these presentations to help students explore culture and sport in Japan and introduce them to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. (Please note, although the Games will now be held in 2021, they will still be known as the Tokyo 2020!).

The resource is designed for use either in assembly or in class time, and focuses on the following key questions.

  • What do you know about Japan?
  • What do you know about Tokyo 2020?
  • What will we do to celebrate/get ready for Tokyo 2020?

There are two versions of the presentation, one designed for primary and one for secondary students. While you can deliver the activity in full, it is also designed to be flexible and you can pick and choose the elements that will work best for your students. Simple delivery notes are included in the ‘Notes’ section below each slide.

Make it active

Each presentation includes active learning ideas for delivery and additionally provides a choice of three active challenge extensions - each linked in some way to Japan or the Games. These challenges encourage students to further explore Japanese lifestyles and traditions, while also trying new ways of getting active and building healthy habits into everyday life. They can be completed in school or as home tasks with students working individually or in household/virtual groups.
